Basilicata is an Italian region of 562.869 inhabitants, whose capital is Potenza.

It includes the province of Potenza and the province of Matera. Other main centers, besides the two capitals Potenza and Matera, are Policoro, Melfi and Pisticci. It borders Puglia to the north and east, Campania to the north and west, Calabria to the south, it is washed by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the south-west and the Ionian Sea to the south-east.

Contested between East and West, Basilicata has experienced high artistic moments since the appearance of man on its territory. From the historical-artistic point of view, therefore, this region offers a precious and varied heritage, far from the usual stylistic canons.

The naturalistic treasures of this region are divided between flat, hilly, mountainous and coastal areas. The woods and forests that cover the mountains are dotted with small and charming villages up to 1000 meters above sea level, where pure air, genuine flavours and the beauties of nature combine with historical evidence to satisfy every desire for knowledge. The Lake of Monticchio area is beautiful and yet still little explored, one of the most spectacular areas in Basilicata. The splendid Lake Grande and Lake Piccolo the two extinct craters of Monte Vulture and are surrounded by dense and lush vegetation.

The provinces of Basilicata are: Matera (capital) and Potenza.
