Stroll through the tiny streets of the historical centre and discover the secrets hidden behind the history and construction process of the traditional Trulli. Visit the lively Rione Monti, to see the pointy white buildings clustered together like a storybook painting. The neighborhood is situated on several narrow lanes on a hillside and is full of little gift shops selling souvenirs and Trulli-themed gifts. You’ll have some time to wander the picture-perfect streets to find everything from colorful terracotta whistles (a favorite local gift) to Trulli-shaped knickknacks. Exploring the hidden nooks of this neighborhood is a tour highlight, as many of the buildings contain tiny bars and the panoramic views from the terraces are stunning. During your tour with a visit to 18th-century Trullo Sovrano, the largest trullo home. This 2-story building houses an excellent history museum and is outfitted with period fittings illustrating Italian life in the 1700s. As a grand finale, visit an historical shop where it is hold the secret original recipe of the most famous local liquor, Rosolio! Discover the secrets of traditional Italian cuisine as you learn to make your favorite dishes. This cooking class takes place at a private country home just outside of Lecce, where you can shop for fresh ingredients at the village market, and enjoy an authentic local experience.
Our hands on cooking class in Lecce starts with some shopping our organic veg garden in the typical countryside of Salento to learn more about the local products and traditions and continues with more shopping of typical products at the local village stone oven.
During the class you will focus on the preparation of a typical traditional lunch, including a hands on fresh pasta workshop, to learn how to make the orecchiette “ear shaped” pasta and maccheroni (Italian for macaroni).
The cooking class includes a lunch, dessert, and coffee and is always combined with tutored wine tasting of selected local wines.

Day 5

Get off the beaten path out of the city center, as well as walk though medieval streets, to discover hole-in-the-wall cafes and the secret spots where local gathers. Visit the local Food Market and taste authentic local specialties, such as focaccia barese (the local take on an Italian classic), taralli and panzerotti, a sort of fried pizza calzone with a legendary following.
